Potassium Oleate
Naulakha Essentials
Potassium Oleate is the potassium salt of oleic acid, primarily functioning as a versatile anionic surfactant and emulsifier across various industrial and consumer sectors.
Appearance: Typically found as a clear to amber liquid or a yellowish/brownish soft solid with a faint soapy odor.
Solubility: Highly soluble in water
APPLICATIONS OF POTASSIUM OLEATE IN VARIOUS INDUSTRIES
1. Polyurethane & Plastic Industry
- PIR Foam Catalyst: It is widely used as a specialized catalyst for the trimerization reaction in Polyisocyanurate (PIR) rigid foam systems, commonly used for insulation boards.
- Rubber Foaming Agent: Acts as a primary surfactant in the Dunlop process to produce natural rubber foam for mattresses, pillows, and cushions.
- Mold Release Agent: Used in the rubber and plastics industries to prevent materials from sticking to molds during manufacturing.
2. Textile & Leather Processing
- Fiber Softener: Applied as a softening agent to improve the tactile quality and "hand feel" of fabrics.
- Scouring & Penetrating Agent: Used in dyeing and printing to remove impurities from fabrics, ensuring even color distribution and better fastness.
- Leather Degreasing: Helps in the emulsification and removal of natural fats during the leather tanning process.
3. Metalworking & Machinery
- Industrial Lubricant: Utilized in metalworking fluids for cutting and forming operations due to its excellent solubility and lubricating properties.
- Surface Protection: Acts as a non-aggressive degreaser that cleans metal parts without damaging the finish of precision components.
4. Specialized Personal Care
- Hair Care: Functions as an emulsifier and solubilizer in shampoos and conditioners, helping to disperse active ingredients and oils evenly.
- Shaving Products: A key base for shaving creams and foams due to its stable foaming characteristics and skin mildness.
5. Other Industrial Uses
- Construction Chemicals: Used as a foaming and air-entraining agent in specialized concrete and plaster formulations.
- Mining Flotation: Acts as a collector or froth flotation agent to selectively separate minerals during ore processing.
- Latex Paints: Serves as a stabilizer and emulsifier to maintain the consistency of water-based paint formulations.
